We are thrilled to introduce our very first blog of which there will be many more covering all the interesting and exciting happenings both at the lodge, in the bush and the various projects we embark on as we go along.
It’s always a good idea to start from the beginning, so we’ll do just that.
Kateka, which means “be blessed” in Tsonga, is the product of a cherished friendship over many, many years which has led to this incredible dream come true. While we don't always know why we cross paths with people on life's journey, little did we know that sometimes the people we connect with along the way, may make all the difference in making our lives just that much more extraordinary. This was the birth of Kateka.
Building an ultra-luxurious lodge from the ground up takes months and months of planning and preparation and we finally broke ground in July 2022. From the outset we pinpointed an opening date and committed to it. Needless to say, over the past 9 months we have had many trials and tribulations, as one does with building a new lodge, but it is all coming together on time, and we cannot wait to finally open our doors on the 1st September 2023. Please take a moment to explore our website which includes a video of the progression to date Kateka - The Safari and Wellness Experience.
We have already encountered some amazing sightings in an around the lodge and across the 14 500 hectares of premium game viewing traversing area in the big five Klaserie Private Nature Reserve which is open to the Kruger National Park and is 65 000 hectares in extent. Our state-of-the-art wellness facility is going to offer some of the most unique and relaxing treatments, so watch this space. For the more energetic there is an F45 Gym facility, a yoga studio and the option of opting for a walking safari with one of our fully qualified trails guides. Our resident team of chefs will prepare delicious cuisine to suit each individual palette. You will not be disappointed.
We want to share Kateka with travellers from around the world who wish to experience a wilderness destination in an environment where our love for wildlife and hospitality is a priority and a passion. Our hope for all our guests is to return home feeling that their lives have been enriched from their stay at Kateka, and that Kateka will leave a lasting impression on their soles through the people they have met and the wildlife and wellness experiences they have had. We can assure you that our team of hand-picked professionals will leave you with an unforgettable experience and ensure that every aspect of your stay is etched in your memory.
